The United Teachers of Wichita and the School Board have reached a tentative one-year agreement, as part of the Interest Based Bargaining process.

The tentative agreement includes:

*Base salary increase of 3.65%
*1 step for all teachers who are eligible to advance
*Tracks honoring additional education
*Longevity payments for veteran teachers
*No change to the employee health program or premiums

“We are so pleased that the teams have been able to collaborate and problem solve to reach a tentative agreement before the school year begins, something that hasn’t occurred in years,” said BOE President Sheril Logan. “On behalf of the Wichita Board of Education, we want to thank the teams for their work on behalf of more than 4,000 certified staff members who inspire and educate Wichita students each day.”

“As the Board of Education affirmed in our new strategic plan, investing in staff is one of the most important ways that we can empower our students to Dream, Believe and Achieve,” said Superintendent Alicia Thompson.

“This agreement shows what happens when we listen to each other’s concerns. We are committed to work together to make this a district of choice for our teachers and our students,” said UTW President Steve Wentz.

Teachers will vote on the tentative August 13 and 14. If ratified by teachers, the Wichita BOE will vote at its August 27 meeting.
