Wichita's Latest Homicide Victims Identified

Last Friday evening, a man was shot & killed in the north part of Wichita, north of 21st & Grove; police have identified the victim as Illya Mitchell, a 51-year-old Wichita resident. Mitchell died from a gunshot wound to the head. He was involved in a physical disturbance with a suspect when he was shot and killed, and police believe this was not a random event.

At about 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, a man was shot and killed in the south part of Wichita, south of Mt. Vernon & Waco. The victim was 27-year-old Jamarious Carter, who had a gunshot wound to the neck. Investigators believe a suspect shot into the residence from the outside in the 2100 block of S. Palisade, and that this was not a random event.

There have been 32 homicides in 30 weeks this year in Wichita.
