A five-run third inning and a strong start from Jordan Cooper guided the Wichita Wingnuts past the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 6-5 in Tuesday night’s exhibition game at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

Cooper had a great debut, tossing three scoreless innings. The right-hander allowed a leadoff hit in the top of the first, but settled down and retired the next nine RedHawks he faced.

The Wingnuts offense had a huge third inning. Logan Watkins and Abel Nieves singled, setting the stage for a Tony Thomas RBI double. Zach Nehrir followed by singling in Nieves and Thomas, then John Nester capped the inning with a two-run home run.

Casey Harman helped the winning cause with two scoreless innings, including striking out the side in the fifth.

James Campbell worked around a two-out single in the eighth, inducing three ground balls to preserve the Wingnuts lead, and Daniel Tillman struck out the side in the ninth to seal the victory for Wichita.
