Police are investigating a shooting this morning in south Wichita.  Around 1:15 a.m. first responders were called to the Frontier Motel in the 16-hundred block of south Broadway.

A 58-year-old male was taken to Via Christi St. Francis in serious condition with a gun shot wound to the chest. Police say a large group was gathered outside the motel, when someone fired shots into one of the rooms. Wichita Police Lt. Matt Lang says the bullet went through a window into the victim’s room, striking him.

"They had no association or had no dealing with anybody outside," said Lt. Lang.  "They were basically inside minding their own business when shots came through the window.  It happened so quick that people inside the room only got a brief glance at a suspect."

Police are looking for a male suspect.
