One man is in police custody on pending murder charges, after a killing involving a member of his family in northeast Wichita. Wednesday morning Wichita Police found 39-year-old Jason Payne lying in the street at 13th and Oliver. He was treated and released at a hospital.

One person is dead, another in critical condition after a shooting just south of Wichita. According to the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office it happened around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 3900 block of West Fairhaven Avenue, just southeast of 47th and West St.

In a post on their Facebook page the Wichita Police Department said a 911 non-emergency line will go live this Thursday, Dec. 31 from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. on Jan. 1.

Two people are dead, one injured, after a traffic accident in east Wichita. It happened around one a.m. Thursday, first responders were called to Webb and Douglas. Wichita Police say a vehicle was southbound on Webb Road near Douglas when it left the road for an unknown reason and struck a tree.

The Wichita Police Department is seeing an increase in package thefts. Lt. Scott Bruno with the Wichita Police Department tells KSN News the increase started a couple months back and compared to other years it’s significant.

Thursday night Wichita Police responded to a shooting call in the 7300 block of west Newell, near Central and Ridge.

A shooting near Harry and Main early Wednesday morning has turned into a homicide investigation.

The Wichita Police Department is asking for the public’s help with locating a suspect involved in a robbery.

Wichita police say suicides in the city are up 70% this year, and stress from the coronavirus outbreak is likely a major factor. Police said Monday the city had 76 suicides as of Friday, an increase from 44 at the same time last year and and 59 in all of 2019.
